Welcome to Room 81,
Get ready! We are going to have an awesome year! I'm excited to say, "Welcome" to all of you new fifth graders and parents. And, "Welcome Back" to several families who had older children in my class.
Here are 4 things I want you to know about me...
1) I love my family.
My husband, Devon, is a teacher at JAMS. We've been married for 21 years! I have two crazy sons. PJ, is a high school Junior, and Milo is in 4th grade.
2) I love being a teacher AND... I love learning even more!
This summer, I relaxed a lot, but I also read and went to workshops because I want to be the best teacher possible for you! I'm really excited to share with you all of the great things I've been learning.
3) I'm going to think of you as if you are my own family.
I will most likely cry on the last day of school. It often happens. I try not to, but it happens anyway. I always want my students to love coming to school. My goal is for you to leave 5th grade with the belief that you can learn anything if you are willing to work at it. You must also be willing to make mistakes because you're trying things that challenge you. Our class will be a safe place for everyone to learn.
4) I really want, and need, feedback and support from you and your parents.
We are going to try some new, exciting things this year. I want to hear from you, and your parents, about how you feel things are going.
That's it for now... Bring on 5th Grade. You've got this!
Love,
Mrs. Smith
